Thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life. Many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project. We are always looking for academic association with students and universities. If you as a student would like to work on an acoustic project other than the one defined in this ad, you are encouraged to contact us as well.
Background
Scania continuously aims to be a benchmark when it comes to developing sustainable vehicle solutions. One of the major challenges for IC engine powered vehicles is to minimize the noise levels. The exhaust silencer serves this function for the engine unit and is desired to have a high degree of performance. As we strive to diversify out noise reduction strategies, we are currently looking at various strategies to modify the acoustic output of IC engines.
Target
The project will aim at running a sensitivity study to optimize acoustic output of an IC engine with regards to various engine operation parameters primarily in GT-Power.
Assignment
We would like to present this thesis work as an open ended project which can be tailored as per the thesis worker’s vision towards the project objectives. Nonetheless following are some areas we are currently working on:
- Characterization of IC engines as an acoustic source.
- Optimization of engine operation for acoustics.
- Coupling of engine acoustics with exhaust muffler simulations.
Education
Masters student with focus on Vehicle Engineering, IC Engines, Engineering mechanics, Acoustics or similar disciples.
Strong background in MATLAB or similar tools would be considered a plus.
Number of students: 1 – 2
Start date: August 2021 – September 2021
Estimated time needed: 20 weeks
