Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.
Background:
Scania need a way to define how our cable harnesses shall be designed and purchased at Scania. We have at Scania today two different ways of defining how we order our cable harnesses.
1) When we have a large number of either geometrical or functional variants, then we use sequence ordered cable harnesses, which is unique for each vehicle.
2) When we have less numbers of either geometrical or functional variants, then we use batch ordered cable harnesses, and those ones can be used in a large number of vehicles. At present we do not have a defined way that helps us to take decisions if we shall use sequence ordered or batch ordered cable harnesses.
Target:
To have a calculation model ready to be used to challenge the way we define our cable harnesses now and for future products.
There are a number of different aspects that needs to be considered when setting the calculation model, such as; number of possible variants we can handle in our different production areas (Engine, Cab, Chassis), cost vs risk assessment in our logistic flow.
At Scania we have almost no limitations for how our customers can order a vehicle, so the number of possible variants are millions.
Assignment:
Develop a calculation model that Scania can use to define future cable harnesses. A demonstrator tool to visualize proof od concept is also part of the assignment.
This means an opportunity for cross functional work and contact within Scania R&D, Scania Purchasing, P&L and S&M.
